Get Involved with Issues Affecting Seniors Today

Being an active, well-informed citizen is an important part of civic duty. When issues impact us and we feel that improvements can be made, we can contact our local, state, and federal lawmakers. By letting them know what is important to us and providing ideas for positive change, we can help make the future brighter for us, as well as our friends, neighbors, and loved ones now and into the future. If you would like to learn more and get involved with addressing the issues affecting older West Virginians, there are several options.

West Virginia Senior Haired Legislature

The West Virginia Senior Haired Legislature (SHL) is a model legislature composed of West Virginia representatives aged 60+ who are elected by their peers. Through this educational program, older adults can learn more about the legislative process and how to identify solutions to common problems. If you are a registered voter aged 60+, you can be a candidate for election to the Senior Haired Legislature. The SHL meets for one week at the State Capital during the fall. Travel, meals, and lodging are provided for SHL representatives.
